Each UIL Regional Accounting Practice Packet contains three 80-question tests with blank answer keys for students to fill in, answer sheets for instructors to grade, and scoring sheets to help calculate each student's final score.

The high school accounting contest for UIL or TAPPS focuses on the principles and fundamentals of accounting including bookkeeping vocabulary, worksheets with adjustments, income statements, balance sheets, trial balance, account classification, journalizing, posting, bank reconciliation, payroll, and other items related to the basic accounting cycle. Word problems, true/false, and multiple-choice questions are presented throughout Hexco’s practice tests and packets to give students hands-on experience with preparing for the types of questions that can be seen at UIL Accounting Regional meets.

FAQ: Do your Accounting tests include solutions for all questions? Region Packet 1 does not contain any worked out solutions as this is older than most of the products that we sell. Regarding all other Accounting Practice Packets and Invitationals (written by Alan Barkemeyer) solutions to calculation problems are included, however, there are no solutions for theory questions, multiple-choice, or true-false questions as these can generally be explained by the coach or by an advanced student. Some tests ask students to fill in a worksheet, and for these, the author does provide an additional worksheet with the answers filled in for grading.

Meet our UIL Accounting authors

Alan Barkemeyer, author of Hexco’s "Regional Accounting Practice Packet Volume 2" and "Volume 3 (ADVANCED)," brings over 32 years teaching experience to include serving 24 years at Rosebud-Lott ISD. Barkemeyer has led his high school students to State in Accounting for 23 years resulting in 15 individual State championships (state record) and winning 17 team championship titles. His teams have always placed in the top 6. Barkemeyer is a four-time recipient of the Rosebud-Lott Teacher of the Year award and was selected as the 2009 Outstanding High School Teacher by the University of Texas Ex-Students Association and UT College of Education. Barkemeyer is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin. Note: Since 1987, there have only been 7 perfect papers at State and 3 of Barkemeyer's students have had perfect papers at State, a record for one school.

LaVerne Funderburk, author of Hexco's "Regional Practice Packet Volume 1" is a Certified Public Accountant offering professional tax and accounting services to the public. LaVerne Funderburk serves as the UIL state contest director for Accounting with the 2016-2017 school year marking her 33rd year in this position. Duties include writing the contest materials, conducting the Accounting sessions at four UIL Student Activity Conferences each fall, and conducting the state contest in Austin each May.
