What is the difference between the Focus and Core products? In addition to our Practice Packets and eMentors, we offer two sets of books to help students prepare for the UIL A+ Social Studies contests. The Core Concepts books reflect materials from the 4th-8th grade textbooks. They cover key information that is likely to be used year-to-year in this UIL contest. The Focus books are updated annually to fit the topic that is released at the UIL Capital Conference in July. If this topic happens to cover a few core concepts, there may be slight overlap for good measure. We recommend starting by purchasing the Core Concepts and then adding the Focus.

Note: The Core Concepts books were written in 2014 and are not updated annually because we have extracted, edited, and reorganized key information that is likely to be used year-to-year in the UIL lower grade Social Studies contest. The content for the 5th-6th grade book and the 7th-8th grade book may have some overlap because both grade levels require knowledge of the U.S. and Texas.
