UIL & TAPPS Spelling & Vocabulary Complement 2024-25

Spend Less Time Looking Up Words and More Time Studying

UIL Spelling Complement books for 9th-12th grades present all words in the UIL Word Power list in ALPHABETICAL SEQUENCE or DIFFICULTY SEQUENCE, replete with definitions, parts of speech, pronunciations, and carefully crafted sentences to help increase understanding of the words. Words marked for vocabulary study also have etymology. Excellent preparation for UIL competition.

What is the difference between Difficulty and Alphabetical sequence? While alphabetizing is considered 'standard' based on the arrangement of the dictionary, Hexco often recommends Difficulty Sequence for two reasons. (1) Word spelling cannot be guessed by students due to it's alphabetical placement, and (2) When coaches consider assigning and testing students on lists of words, the words are already randomized. This makes study of words more interesting to students because a variety of words and word sounds are presented as opposed to students studying a lot of words that begin with the same letter. Note: Difficulty Sequence is simply the Texas UIL Spelling word list in a randomized format with all of the word information included as described above. Please see our View Inside of each version to help decide which UIL Spelling study product works best you! The Difficulty version and the Alphabetical version both include an alphabetized list of words in the the Index section with their respective page numbers.
